Why Barbora Loves It

Valérie Dagueneau is the fourth generation of her family to run the eighteen hectare estate located in the hamlet of Les Berthiers. Brought up on the winery, and cousin of the late Didier Dagueneau, whose domaine lies a ten-minute walk away, Valérie has always been passionate about winemaking. Her philosophy is ‘a relentless search for quality’.

The winery utilises a combination of traditional winemaking techniques and modern practices to craft their Pouilly-Fumé. The careful harvesting and controlled fermentation of the grapes ensure the wine retains its freshness and aromatic qualities, while lees ageing adds complexity and texture.

Valérie has earned recognition for her work through the numerous awards she has won for her wines over the years as well as for her techniques and work in the vineyards, which she particularly enjoys. She has held the ”High Environmental Value” certification (HEV) since 2019. The vineyards are located on kimmeridgian marl soils, also known as "Terres Blanches," which are chalky in nature, leading to added acidity and freshness. Additionally, a hint of Barrois limestone and a small but precious vein of flint contribute to the unique terroir of the vineyards.

Tasting & Pairing

Tasting notes:

On the palate, the wine is crisp and dry, with flavours like citrus, green apple, pear and grass embraced by a bright acidity and a refreshing finish. A fantastic companion to light fish dishes like ceviche and sushi, it is equally right at home alongside tangy cheeses and herbaceous vegetables.
