Why Marco Loves It

'The experience of a fourth generation vine growing family means the most authentic expression of Verdicchio di Jesi'.

The wine stands out for its personality. It is structured, tense, firm and vibrant. I like to define it as a ‘red wine dressed in white’. The long almond, bitter aftertaste, so typical of this variety, is perfect for a wide range of food pairings.

The Finocchi family has been a family of vine growers since 1905. The winery is located in Staffolo, the "Balcony of the Vallesina", in the Marche region of Italy, with an altitude of 442 metres above sea level. Rolling hills and vineyards paint the landscape, with the location offering a unique view all the way to the Adriatic Sea to the northeast and to the crown of the Apennines dominated by the unique shape of Mount San Vicino to the southwest.

Since ancient times, this area has provided the optimal conditions for flourishing vines and production of the best Verdicchio grapes. The brightness and the warmth of the sun allow the grapes to express a strong character and delicate fragrances. Given that, it's understandable why Staffolo is also called "Hill of the ‘Verdicchio." The grapes are harvested by hand then soft-pressed and fermented in stainless steel tanks.

Tasting & Pairing

Tasting notes:

The wine expresses an intense, elegant, and flavour-enhancing minerality, a typical characteristic of the Verdicchio varietal. Rotating the glass releases intense floral notes, including those of yellow and white flowers (particularly hawthorn). In the mouth the wine opens softly, with no residual sugars, with an immediate hit of acidity perfectly counterbalanced by the flavour. The aromas linger in the long aftertaste, with hints of minerals and flowers, finishing with a slightly bitter note.
