Why Marco Loves It

‘A fairytale story that came true.'

Col di Lamo is the soul of a great woman, and the never ending charm of the Montalcino countryside.

While Giovanna Neri—Gianna to her friends—has a law degree, she inherited her father’s love of wine and discovered a passion for it law could never match. Gianna has become a successful and sought-after winemaker, with her wines a testament to her skill. Gianna’s unique touch is now aided by that of her daughter, Diletta. Together, they are continuing to create truly beautiful wines.

Col di Lamo is all about style. From the bottles, to the cellar, to the taste of the wine itself, Gianna's style is front and centre. 100% Sangiovese, this wine is a real-life ode to sustainability, with a harvest carried out by hand, followed by fermentation without selected yeasts. The finished product is then refined in barrels for one year.

The vineyard is relatively low in altitude, at 250-300 metres, with incredible sandstone and clay soils, including alberese, the limestone-rich, schistous land which Sangiovese loves. All of this leads to a ripe, fleshy, and well-textured wine.

Tasting & Pairing

Tasting notes:

With its ripe strawberry and cherry flavours, peppery spices, and proper tannic support, Gianna’s Rosso reminds me of a Brunello. Decant it and open it 2 hours before the meal in order to allow it to spread all its aromas and to develop its amazing potential. Combine it with wild game recipes, hare, wild boar, venison, pork ribs or why not, with a beautiful ‘Fiorentina’ steak.
