Why Pardon Loves It

Dzimbahwe is the personal winery of Raravina somm Pardon Taguzu. We could not be happier to be able to be able to offer his incredible wines across Europe and share his story with our community.

Pardon’s vineyards in the Weinviertel region of Austria take advantage of a wonderful winemaking climate to produce fresh, spicy wines. The Cuvee Betty Blanc was created in honour of Pardon’s mother, and is appropriately one of his most special wines.

The cuvee is a blend of Roter Veltliner, Grüner Veltliner and Riesling. The Grüner and Roter grapes grow in deep loess soils that produce particularly fruity, spicy, and lively wines, while Pardon’s Riesling enjoys the warm soil of the Oberer Berg vineyard, whose gravel banks were washed up by the Danube more than 10 million years ago.

Hand-sorted grapes are fermented in stainless steel tanks then matured on large wooden casks. The result is a tour-de-force of winemaking with a rich, complex palate that is drinking well today but also able to be aged for another 15-20 years.

For those wanting to sample the grapes individually, Pardon’s Grüner and Roter Veltiners are also available on Raravina as single varietals.

The labels of Dzimbahwe wines depict the community that once shared space behind walls of Masvingo in Pardon’s home country of Zimbabwe. They reflect Pardon’s focus on tradition and wine’s ability to bring people together.

Tasting & Pairing

Tasting notes:

Ripe aromas of pineapple, peach, and apple on the nose lead into complex, fresh, fruity palate and rich mouthfeel followed by a long, lovely finish. Look to fish dishes and white meats for pairing but this is a highly versatile wine and pairing experimentation is very much encouraged.
