Why We Love It

Cristal is the crown jewel of Champagne Louis Roederer, and continually one of the finest and most sought-after champagnes available. We were stunned to get this 1978 release for a steal at auction and are pleased to be able to offer it in the Cabinet at a (relatively) bargain price.

Now fully mature, this 1978 is a profound and exotic wine that demands attention despite the impressive company it keeps. Full-bodied with incredible depth and power, look for tropical notes of apricot, orange, caramel, and rosewater, but with fantastic intensity all around. This is a gorgeous wine that offers the best of what combining long ageing with top-flight champagne can do.

Capsule Status: Intact

Label Quality: Good

Ullage: In the neck

Important Notes on Cabinet Wines

Many of the wines we sell in the Cabinet are from old vintages. Ageing can have truly wonderful effects on wine. Those effects are influenced by a range of factors, both within and outside the bottle, meaning two bottles from the same vintage may have different profiles. If you are new to older wines—and if so, welcome!—please keep in mind that you may encounter a range of flavours and aromas not found in younger wines.
