Why We Love It

Chateau Pontet-Clauzure, nestled in the charming village of Saint-Emilion, boasts ancient vineyards dating back to the 17th century. We were stunned to find this example of their 1995 vintage as a hidden gem at auction and are excited to be able to offer it here in The Cabinet.

The 1995 vintage was a successful one on both banks of Bordeaux, but St. Emilion performed particularly well. Wines from this vintage tend to be strong and structured, with a good amount of fruit. Highly tannic at release, thanks to the significant ageing the wine should now be much more approachable, though still with a good amount of Merlot-driven grit.

Capsule Status: Intact
Label Quality: Good with some writing on the label
Ullage: Top shoulder

Important Notes on Cabinet Wines

Many of the wines we sell in the Cabinet are from old vintages. Ageing can have truly wonderful effects on wine. Those effects are influenced by a range of factors, both within and outside the bottle, meaning two bottles from the same vintage may have different profiles. If you are new to older wines—and if so, welcome!—please keep in mind that you may encounter a range of flavours and aromas not found in younger wines.
