Why We Love It

Chateau Soutard sits on a limestone plateau overlooking the grand crus of St. Emilion, where it has been a part of Bordeaux winemaking for centuries. It’s believed winemaking on the property dates to 1513, with the Chateau having been built in 1741. A recent renovation has restored the winery’s 18th century brilliance, and we would recommend anyone with a love for nature, wine, and history to book a stay at their guesthouse.

The 1970 Bordeaux vintage is considered legendary. As a result, wines from this year are highly sought-after, and increasingly difficult to find. While this wine could be stored as part of a strong cellar collection, we recommend opening, briefly decanting, and enjoying a journey back over 50 years in time to one of the greatest seasons ever seen in the majestic Bordeaux landscape.

Important Notes on Cabinet Wines

Many of the wines we sell in the Cabinet are from old vintages. Ageing can have truly wonderful effects on wine. Those effects are influenced by a range of factors, both within and outside the bottle, meaning two bottles from the same vintage may have different profiles. If you are new to older wines—and if so, welcome!—please keep in mind that you may encounter a range of flavours and aromas not found in younger wines.
