Pasta with Tomato and Basil Sauce

Ingredients:
- 250g dried pasta (such as spaghetti or penne)
- 400g canned diced
tomatoes
- 2 cloves of garlic, minced
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
- 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for a touch of heat)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh basil leaves, chopped, for garnish
- Grated Parmesan cheese, for serving β¨β¨

Instructions:
1. Cook the pasta according to the package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
2. In a large saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and chopped onion. SautΓ© until the onion becomes translucent and the garlic is fragrant, about 2-3 minutes.
3. Add the canned diced tomatoes, dried oregano, dried basil, red pepper flakes (if using), salt, and pepper. Stir well to combine. Reduce the heat to low and simmer the sauce for about 15-20 minutes, allowing the flavours to meld together.
4. Once the sauce has thickened slightly, add the cooked pasta to the saucepan. Toss the pasta with the sauce until it is well coated and heated through.
5. Remove the pan from the heat and garnish with fresh chopped basil leaves.
6. Serve the pasta with tomato and basil sauce in individual plates or bowls. Sprinkle grated Parmesan cheese on top if desired. β¨ β¨β¨
